Writer/Director at Veritasium

What’s your role at Electrify?

I’m a writer/director for Veritasium. It’s essentially a dream job. My background is in television, and science communication. Veritasium has long been the best channel making science content, and now I get to be part of making those videos!

What’s a project you’ve worked on at Electrify that you’re most proud of, and why?

The jet-engine turbine blade film. It was a chance to go deep into engineering and materials science, and it was also simply a great story with remarkable people involved. The response - especially from viewers who said they learned something new or saw the technology differently - was incredible. It felt like we were adding real value and putting something on YouTube that hadn’t been told in that way before.

What makes working at Electrify different from anywhere else you’ve been?

It isn’t just Veritasium. Electrify has given me the chance to meet, collaborate and share ideas with creators across a wide range of channels. It’s rare to be surrounded by so many amazing writers, directors, animators, editors, and creators who are all pushing to make the best possible videos in such diverse areas. It pushes me to raise my own standards in the videos I’m making.

Where do you think the creator economy is headed in the next few years?

The standard of work on YouTube keeps rising, and I don’t see that slowing down. From where I sit, Veritasium is growing in both audience and team size, and with Electrify’s support we can take on more ambitious projects and keep pushing the boundaries of science videos. I think that’s the direction for the broader creator economy too - higher quality and larger scope.
