What first drew you to working with content creators?
While I was studying for my master's degree in physics there was one question that I was asked often: What is your passion? Most people around me had a clear sense, but I didn't. So I reflected on what I'd always loved doing, something that didn't take me much energy, and I realized it was learning. I love to learn. So naturally I wondered, how could I turn that passion into a living? And I figured, well, just make videos about what you do! So I started making my own (terrible) videos, inspired by people like Derek, and slowly got better. But I knew I could become so much better still. Fortunately for me, I had to do an internship during my master's. So I took a long shot, wrote an email to Veritasium asking if I could help them research videos, and to my surprise they got back asking if I'd help research/write and produce them! I said yes, and have been working here ever since!
What’s a project you’ve worked on at Electrify that you’re most proud of, and why?
The video we did on Game Theory / The Prisoner's Dilemma. It's one of those videos where I frequently reflect on the takeaways. Sometimes I'll feel a little jealous, or worse, envious. But then I think back to the takeaway of that video -- just focus on your own score. And the rest will take care of itself. I think this is so true, and in the long run, if you focus on your own score, I believe things will work out. So far it's helped me a ton. The video is also just a great reminder that being a good person pays!
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone wanting to work in the creator economy?
Start! Do you want to make long form youtube videos? Start making long form youtube videos! Want to become a streamer? Start streaming! You will learn so much more by just starting and figuring it out, than by watching. And even better, it shows you're proactive and really want this. So when you apply for a job, you stand out SO much. It doesn't matter if the quality is not that great yet, as long as people see you put in effort and care, you're miles ahead of everyone else. (And having interviewed hundreds of people for Veritasium, surprisingly few people do this!!)
